The British Journal of Social Work Appoints New Co-editors

The British Journal of Social Work (BJSW) has appointed two new co-editors: Professor Carlene Firmin and Dr Sui Ting Kong, both of Durham University (UK), after a global search and rigorous selection process.
The BJSW is one of the world’s leading social work academic journals. Owned by the British Association of Social Workers (BASW), BJSW is published and marketed by Oxford University Press.
Dr Ruth Allen, CEO of BASW, said:
One behalf of BASW, I’m delighted that we have been able to appoint such eminent scholars and creative thinkers to the co-editorship of the BJSW. As co-editors they bring shared strengths but also complementary qualifications, skills and experience to the role.
Under the out-going co-editors Professor Vasilios Ioakimidis and Dr Reima Maglajlic the BJSW has reached new heights. I’d like to thank Vasilios and Rea for their outstanding contribution. Under the leadership of Professor Firmin and Dr Kong I’m confident that this upward trajectory of the BJSW will continue.
Professor Carlene Firmin and Dr Sui Ting Kong write:
We are beyond honoured to have been appointed as co-editors in BJSW. Having both published in the journal for a number of years, and seen the quality of its papers and their impact, we know the importance of this appointment. Building upon the incredible legacy of Reima and Vasilios we aim to continue to amplify often unheard voices, be at the forefront of sharing and shaping knowledge on issues most pressing to the profession, and being a home for social work scholarship from around the world.
Professor Firmin and Dr Kong will officially start in their new role as co-editors on 1 July 2025.
