The famous saying, “Behind every successful man, there is a woman,” has long shaped our perceptions of gender roles. However, the objective of this campaign is to challenge and reshape this narrative. The focus is on the idea that “a man behind every successful woman” is just as important — one who provides protection, safety, guidance, mutual respect, and holistic support.
When I came across some concerning statistics, I felt compelled to take action. I consulted with stakeholders and proposed the idea of involving Pakistani international media in this campaign. Bradford became the focal point for this initiative because 36% of its population speaks and understands Urdu, and the Pakistani community is present not only locally but globally. The goal was to leverage this unique position to help local authorities and public services raise awareness, while also enhancing the positive image of British Pakistani Muslim men.
I also worked in partnership with the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) team at the University of Bradford and local Islamic scholars. Their involvement provided an authentic insight into how Islam supports the protection of women and children, while also challenging the negative stereotypes and stigma surrounding Islamophobia.
As a media coordinator for this campaign, I’m incredibly proud of the role played by media correspondents across West Yorkshire. Their efforts ensured that the campaign's message reached a global audience, spreading awareness through electronic media, print publications, and social media platforms.
In addition, the campaign highlighted the importance of recognizing and appreciating the contributions of volunteers. I am deeply honored to have received the Outstanding Achievement Award for 2025 from the Social Justice Society at the University of Bradford. This recognition underscores the campaign's impact and the dedication of the media team, particularly the Pakistani news reporters, who were also awarded certificates for their exceptional work.
This campaign has made significant strides in shifting traditional narratives, empowering communities, and fostering mutual respect. I am grateful for the opportunity to have played a role in this important cause.
