BASWs Head of Policy and Research Luke Geoghegan chaired a session organised by The Children’s Society and the Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit about children in care from the EU who need to register for the EU Settlement Scheme as soon as possible.
In response to the new rules, BASW UK Chief Executive Ruth Allen wrote to the Home Office raising concerns that this will demonise those people who need support.
BASW has been concerned that private companies would be carrying out interviews with those who were seeking asylum and were or claimed to be under 18, without appropriate expertise or staff.
There are calls from across Parliament to recognise that people living in care and health settings need to see their loved ones through family member and social worker visits.
