Four Nations, One Challenge—Specialist Statutory Mental Health Community of Practice
Please join us for the next in our series of 4 Nation Communities of Practice for specialist Mental Health Practitioners on the 14th of May at 12.30-1.30pm.
Our topic this time will be an exploration of Right Care Right Person (RCRP) which has been rolled out by some Police forces in England and Wales and will now be introduced in Northern Ireland. We will be joined by Michael Brown the MentalHealthCop who shares his views about RCRP on his popular blog of the same name.
"Michael is PhD student at the University of Birmingham, researching mental health related deaths after police contact and their effect on police legitimacy after claims of lessons learned.
He was previously a police officer for 27-years, most of it operational 24/7 as a critical incident, public order and police firearms commander in Birmingham. He was the College of Policing's first mental health coordinator, a role created for him, after the success of his personal blog - MentalHealthCop. He has been an expert witness in a number of high-profile inquests, in the UK and Australia and has given evidence to major national inquiries and the UK Parliament.
For his work on mental health in policing, he's the only officer to have been awarded the President's Medal by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He has also been recognised by mental health charity mind and in HM Queen Elizabeth's 90th Birthday Honours list."
This will be hosted via MS Teams, for any queries please contact n.ireland@basw.co.uk.
