Navigating the complexities of Section 117 aftercare || BASW England Mental Health Group Lunchtime Session

Section 117 is an enforceable freestanding duty placed on both local social services authorities and NHS commissioners to provide non-chargeable aftercare services to eligible people as defined in the Mental Health Act legislation.  This session will explore the challenges and examples of good practice in the provision of Section 117 aftercare.

Mary Brazier – Mary is the co-chair of the BASW Mental health thematic group. Mary has worked as an operational manager of both community and inpatient mental health services, before moving into professional social work leadership roles within NHS Trusts. Mary was a warranted ASW and AMHP from 2001 to 2022.  She is currently the Director of Social Work in East London NHS FT.
