Through the gate: Collaborative working to build safer lives for women in prison, their families and our communities
BASW England Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Branch Presents: Through the gate - Collaborative working to build safer lives for women in prison, their families and our communities.
Lyn Shackleton is an Offender Manager, working for the Probation Service in Derbyshire.
Lyn will speak about the need for collaborative working between the Probation Service and community partnership agencies; including Local Authority departments. Lyn knows this is critical for the management of women in prison, and ensuring a female offender’s success when they are released. At this branch seminar, Lyn will provide an interesting insight into some of the challenges of working in a women’s prison. Lyn will highlight what an exciting and rewarding place of work it can be. Lyn will also be exploring the benefits of developing a more collaborative approach so that we may work towards happier and safer communities for the future.
Lyn has over twenty years of experience, working in both a community and custodial setting. For the last eleven years Lyn has been based at HMP Foston Hall, a prison that accommodates remanded and sentenced female prisoners.
Lyn is a passionate advocate for the rights and wellbeing of women in prison, including: humanising the female offender applying interventions aimed at addressing risk supporting family relationships, accessing care to meet the mental health and psychological needs of female offenders supporting the successful resettlement of female offenders back into the community. This event will support networking and practitioner wellbeing.
It is a hybrid branch event open to students, social workers, BASW members and non-members studying, living, or working in the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire area.
Start: 6PM: for light refreshments with a BASW update: Speakers from 6.30pm End: 8PM.
