BASW is proud to announce the appointment of Andrew Reece to the interim position of Strategic Lead for BASW Cymru and England following an internal selection process.
“I’m delighted to announce Andrew’s appointment,” said BASW interim CEO Sam Baron. “His leadership skills will support the BASW Cymru and England teams to continue to deliver on member priorities across both nations.”
Andrew has been working for BASW England as a professional officer since October 2024, where he supported the Social Work with Disabled Children’s sub-group, the Children & Families, Student/NQSW and the Voluntary, Community & Social Enterprise Sector Thematic Groups, as well as the 80-20 Campaign.
“I’m excited to have this opportunity to lead BASW Cymru and England and am really looking forward to working with colleagues in Wales, learning from their good practice. I hope to build on the very successfully body of work that has been delivered by both national teams over the past decade,” said Andrew. “I’ve been a social worker most my working life and it’s an honour to represent my colleagues and fellow professionals, and to give them a voice at a local and national level.”
Andrew came to BASW having already been an active BASW member for several years, sitting on the England National Standing Committee and supporting both the ‘Homes not Hospitals’ and ‘80-20: Time for Relationship Based Practice’ campaigns.
Before joining BASW, Andrew qualified as a social worker in 1996 after spending ten years working in children’s home across England.
He worked as head of service for several councils in London and the West Midlands, most recently as Head of integrated Learning Disability Services for Camden. He provided social work and clinical leadership in an ‘Outstanding’ rated service, supporting adults with learning disabilities to live fulfilled lives in their local communities.
