BASW Student Ambassador Scheme opens for applications!
BASW Student Ambassadors link social work students and BASW together, so that we can hear the voices of students and build understanding of the support BASW offers.
The scheme is co-produced between BASW, current students, University programmes and BASW's student and NQSW groups.
We are currently inviting applications, with a closing date of 12th December 2025.
Why apply to be a Student Ambassador?
Here are a number of great reasons to be a Student Ambassador:
- Free BASW membership for the duration of your role, with the option to add membership into the Social Workers Union for just 83p per month
- Access up to 75% discounts on journals as part of your BASW membership.
- Gaining skills including building relationships and being an approachable support to other student colleagues. You will demonstrate professional curiosity, actively listen to your peers, find innovative ways to gather information and communicate effectively with BASW in giving feedback - interpersonal and communication skills which are crucial for effective social work practice.
- Have a BASW staff member point of contact for ongoing support.
- Be supported through regular online Ambassador meetings.
- Receive a hoodie & merchandise to identify you as a BASW Student Ambassador in your university.
- Obtain a statement or reference of your work in the role on request.
What to expect
You will be studying an undergraduate or post graduate programme, through apprenticeships, fast track programmes or academies.
We will support you to be a student leader at your university, proactive in reaching out to your peers and sharing the views of students with BASW.
You will actively listen to your peers, find innovative ways to gather information and communicate effectively with BASW in giving feedback - interpersonal and communication skills which are crucial for effective social work practice.
Responsibilities and commitments
- We will ask for a commitment from you to undertake the role while you remain a student.
- Share information and materials about BASW's membership benefits with your student peers.
- We would ask you for feedback about the key issues from students to make BASW aware of.
- We may ask you to consult with your peers regarding specific events or campaigns.
- We may ask you to be ‘critical friends’ for different aspects of social work education, placements and moving into employment as newly qualified social workers.
- Keeping us informed of your achievements/activities via an online activity noticeboard.
- Getting involvement in shaping and delivering the annual online Student Conference.
