BASW England Adult Social Work Forums: Focused time for Critical Reflection -10.07.2025
BASW members log into your account first to view the full list of forum dates and select from the events page: https://basw.co.uk/events
This forum is for BASW members who work with adults in a range of contexts, either as individuals or as part of a family and for social workers at every stage in their career.
Forums are held online and fortnightly, providing the opportunity and space to critically reflect, challenge your thinking, share ideas and learn with peers. Retaining the underpinning theme of human rights, this forum will enable you to strengthen your practice, helping you to gather evidence towards your continuous professional development, a requirement for all social workers in England.
Together with peers, this forum will enable you to explore approaches to practice using a range of theory, policy, law, practice models and approaches, including a human rights-based perspective to re-connect with social work values and ethics.
Here’s what members who have attended previous forums had to say:
"Thank you for your time and the information provided. It has been a great help."
"It was a really good session, which was reflective and informative. Sign me up for more!"
" I really enjoyed the session and would like to attend in future. I’m in practice much less than others (once a month) but I really think it’s important to keep in touch, great facilitation with the opportunity for everyone to contribute."
This is a participatory forum; therefore, places are limited to twenty to ensure everyone has the opportunity contribute. Attendees are requested to join no longer than 15 minutes after the start of the forum and will be asked for cameras to remain on for the duration of the forum.
You are invited to join this forum to:
• Share ideas and challenges with peers. • Explore ethical issues and dilemmas. • Consider the legal and policy context for social work practice. • Critically reflect from an intersectional and anti-oppressive • practice perspective. • Take away strategies and solutions to strengthen your social work practice.
Expectations of members in joining the forum:
- That you will contribute to the discussion. - You will have your camera on (unless unable to do so). - Maintain confidentiality. - Challenge the view not the person.
NB: Anyone attempting to join after ten minutes won’t be admitted to the forum but will be contacted afterwards with the opportunity to book onto an alternative forum date.
Joining details will be provided 24 hours prior to each forum.
