BASW England 'Meet the Authors' Series | Social Work Is Not Self-Harm – How Social Workers Can Make the SAVI Shift and Thrive in the Profession
This session is part of the BASW England Meet the Authors Series and features social worker, author and coach Nadine K.L. Boyne discussing her book Social Work Is Not Self-Harm.
Across the UK and internationally, many social workers are experiencing high levels of pressure, emotional exhaustion and uncertainty about their future in the profession. In this session, Nadine will explore why this is happening and what it means for the sustainability of social work.
Drawing on her personal journey, leadership experience and work with practitioners across the sector, Nadine introduces the SAVI Method – supporting social workers to become more Self-Aware, Authentic, Valuing and Intentional in how they navigate their careers and lives.
The session will explore: • Why many social workers feel trapped between purpose and burnout • The concept of “career self-harm” in social work systems • How greater personal awareness can lead to stronger professional practice • Practical reflections from the SAVI framework • How social workers can reconnect with their purpose while protecting their wellbeing
This interactive conversation will be relevant for practitioners, managers, educators and students who want to see social work not just survive, but truly flourish.
Participants will also have the opportunity to learn more about the book, connect with a growing community of reflective practitioners, and explore ways of getting involved with BASW London branch activity and wider professional networks.
