Burnout and Trauma in Social Work: Research findings and BASW’s Working Conditions Campaign

At the BASW UK conference in June 2025 Hannah Kingsford, practitioner/researcher and Social Worker presented her research paper, “It's just the way it is, if you want to be a social worker.” Exploring burnout and trauma in the social work profession, in which she explored Social Workers’ experience of workplace stress, trauma and burnout across the Social Work profession.

At this on-line session Hannah will reprise her conference presentation. Hannah will be joined by Lewis Roberts, Social Worker, IRO and Vice Chair of BASW UK, who will discuss how the findings from Hannah’s research links to BASW UK’s ‘Working Conditions’ campaign and introduce some of the resources developed in that campaign to support your wellbeing.

The session will conclude with an open discussion, chaired by June Thoburn, Emeritus Professor of Social Work from UEA, to give you an opportunity to question the researchers, explore possible solutions and how you can make a difference in your workplace.
