Worcestershire Branch – The Experiences of Nigerian Students in UK Social Work Training and Practice’
Hybrid Event: Room G168 University of Worcester, St John’s Campus Edgar Elgar Building WR26AJ
This event will illuminate the experiences of Nigerian students as they learn and practice in a challenging social work environment. Social work teams are under pressure; media scrutiny remains primarily negative and the rise of the right in geo-politics has impacted all communities.
The Masters in Social Work at the University of Worcester currently has a predominance of Nigerian social work students. Two students are also Worcestershire BASW Branch Committee members, and will speak about their experiences at this event. Additionally, two recently qualified Nigerian students have also offered to share their early practice experiences.
There is much we can learn about how best to welcome and work with Nigerian students, and discussion and debate here should be instructive for us all.
